Algiers Lock - USACE indicates that the riverside sector gate has suffered
structural steel and plate damage, possibly due to debris. Algiers Lock is
closed until further notice. USACE New Orleans District is assessing
damage and repair options and will update status soon.
Algiers Lock will be closed until at least July 1st. Currently, traffic in this
sector on the Lower Miss is being delayed by 3 days in each direction due to
delays at Bayou Sorrel and Harvey Locks.
R.S. Kerr L&D No. 15 will be closed to navigation traffic from 12:01 A.M. May
20th until 11:59 P.M. May 26th, 2013. The lock is being closed during this
timeframe to install stainless steel hydraulic piping to replace original steel
piping that has deteriorated. Jantran's last northbound boat will be May
13th through this sector and the last southbound boat will be May 17th.

Lock Closures / Delays

Ohio River
to river traffic during the following periods: 1:00 A.M. June 3rd, 2013
through 11:00 P.M. June 14th, 2013 - AND - 1:00 A.M. July 1st, 2013
through 11:00 P.M. on July 12th, 2013. All traffic will pass through the
small chamber during these periods. Major delays to navigation ARE
expected. The small chamber will be unavailable from June 15th, 2013
until June 30th, 2013.
Lock and Dam 52 (Mile 938.9) The main (1200 foot) lock is scheduled
for two closures From August 7th through August 16th, 2013 and
August 19th through August 28th, 2013. The purpose of the closures
is to repair the lock chamber cells. The two day interruption of work
will open the main chamber to navigation traffic and reduce the
queue. During these closures all traffic will be passed through the
auxiliary (600 foot) lock chamber.
The auxiliary chamber is scheduled for a closure from September 3,
2013 through October 18th, 2013. During this closure a repair crew
will be replacing the miter gate anchorages and rebuilding the miter
gate machinery. During this closure, all traffic will be passed through
the main lock chamber.
