River Conditions

Oil spill update: The Mississippi River, Mobile and all other U.S. gulf ports remain

open. Pensacola Pass has some delay due to booming operations in the area.

Regular closures are not set at this time but will possibly close during high tide to

prevent contamination of waterways.



St. Louis Harbor will be operating under high water conditions for the next several

days. Projected to drop below 30' on 8/4/10.



The Lower Mississippi River between miles 775 and 769 has been re-opened

following the spill from 7-26.



Upper Miss Lock 12 (548.6) south may experience heavy flows and drift due to a

failed dam above the mouth of the Maquoeta River.



Lock 16 (UM 457.00) reopened on 7/29/10.



Lock 17 (UM 437.00) is closed due to high water. Projected to reopen on 7/30/10.



Lock 20 (UM 343.00) is closed due to high water. Projected to reopen on 8/02/10.



The main chamber at Mel Price Lock (Upper Miss mile 201) will be closed for

planned repairs from 6/25/10 to 8/7/10. Auxiliary lock will remain open, but delays

are expected. An assist boat will be used for locking during this period. Current

delay is 3 to 4 hours.



Chickamauga Lock (TR 471) will have a full closure from 06:00 on 7-20-10 through

18:00 on 8-16-10.



On the Arkansas River, Emmett Sanders Lock (mile 66) and Colonel Charles D.

Maynard Lock (mile 86.3) are scheduled to be closed to navigation traffic from

8-30 through 9-12-10. These locks are scheduled to be

closed during this timeframe for dewatering to perform scheduled inspections,

maintenance and repair. Lock 8 (AK 155.9) and Lock 9 (AK 176.90) are tentatively

scheduled for closure from 8-29 through 9-11. Lock 10 (AK 205.9)

and Lock 12 (AK 256.8) are tentatively scheduled for closure 8-27 through 9-9.



Upcoming lock closures on the Warrior-Tombigbee River are as follows.....Holt (WT

347) 7-6 through 8-4. Oliver (WT 338) 7-8 through 8-1.

Coffeeville (WT 117) 7-9 through 8-2.



Upcoming lock closure on the Tennessee-Tombigbee System....Heflin (TT 266) July

12th through July 26th.



Colorado River Locks (WC 441.5) will undergo guidewall repairs from 6-28-2010

through 8-6-2010. The work will take place from 07:30 to 16:30 Monday through

Friday.



Boats transiting east of New Orleans are having to stop for self-assessment due to

tar balls being discovered.



Bayou Sorrel Lock will begin closing on 7-6-2010 to replace the northwest

guidewall, contractor will work Monday through Saturday from 07:00 to 17:00 until

September, 2011. The lock will be open to traffic from 17:00 to 07:00 nightly during

weekdays and 24 hours on the weekends. Currently 10 hours delay at Bayou Sorrel.



Port Allen Lock will be closed for repairs from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm for 30 days

beginning on 7-28-10. This will impact traffic going to and from the West Canal.



The surge barrier at IHNC will have a 12 hour daily closure beginning 7-1-10.

Currently 4 hours delay at IHNC Lock, 4 hours at Port Allen Lock.

2010 Repair Schedule



ARKANSAS RIVER



Lock 4 (AK 66) and Lock 5 (AK 86.3) will be closed from August 30th

through

September 12th. Lock 8 (AK 155.9) and Lock 9 (AK 176.90) are

tentatively scheduled

for closure from August 29th through September 11th. Lock 10 (AK

205.9) and Lock

12 (AK 256.8) are tentatively scheduled for closure August 27th through

September

9th.





OHIO RIVER AREA



MCAlpine (606.8) 6-1-10 - 7-15-10 miter gate installation, right

descending lock

chamber.



Cannelton (720.7) 7-19-10 - 8-7-10 miter gate repairs (auxiliary will be

used)



Lock 52 (938.9) 8-16-10 - 10-9-10 intermittent closures (main chamber)

for repairs to

the lower miter gate. (auxiliary will be used)



Lock 53 (962.6) 8-16-10 - 10-9-10 intermittent closures (auxiliary

chamber) for repairs

to the lower miter gate. (main chamber will be used).



Smithland Lock and Dam (918.5) 10-12-10 - 10-28-10 miter gate repairs

to the right

descending lock chamber. Traffic will pass through the left descending

lock.



Smithland Lock and Dam (918.5) 10-29-10 - 11-15-10 Left descending

lock chamber

will be closed for miter gate repairs. All traffic will be passed through

the right

descending lock during the closure.



Illinois River



The completion date for repairs at Peoria Lock has been extended until

10-2-10. The lock may be closed 10 hours per day Monday through

Saturday, and only available to lock from 5pm to 7am, and a 70'width

restriction will apply.

Chickamauga Lock TR471-Lock will be closed from 0600 on 7-20-10

through 18:00 on

8-16-10.





Watts Bar Lock TR529.9-Lock is scheduled for closure to navigation

from 0600 on 12

October 2010 through 1800 on 2 November 2010. There is no auxiliary

lock

available to pass traffic during this closure.
